How to book your inburgering exam at DUO
Last checked: 28 October 2026. This is an unofficial guide. DUO can change its process at any time; the official information is on inburgeren.nl.
You book the A2 language exams and the KNM exam yourself, in Mijn Inburgering. You choose the exam, a date and a location.
Before you book
- Check which exams you need. Mijn Inburgering shows which exams you have to take and at which level.
- Book early. It can take more than 6 weeks before you can take the exam.
- Have DigiD ready. See how to log in to Mijn Inburgering.
How to book
- Log in to Mijn Inburgering with DigiD.
- Choose to register for an exam.
- Choose the exam: a language exam at A2 level (Reading, Listening, Writing or Speaking) or KNM.
- Choose a date and an exam location.
- Pay. If you have a loan from DUO, you can choose to pay with your loan here.
- You get a confirmation by email and by letter.
You can see the date of your exam in Mijn Inburgering. About 1 week before the exam, DUO also sends you a letter with the date, time and place.
Changing or cancelling
- In Mijn Inburgering you can change the date or location of your exam up to 1 week before the exam.
- You can also cancel. If you cancel up to 1 week before the exam, you get your money back.
- No Mijn Inburgering? Send a letter to DUO Servicecentrum Inburgering, Postbus 764, 9700 AT Groningen and ask for a new date. DUO must receive it at least 7 days before the exam.
What it costs
Each exam costs €50: Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking and KNM. If you are an asylum status holder, your first 2 attempts at each exam are free, but not if you take the exam at a lower level than your PIP (your integration plan with the municipality) says. The prices are on DUO's page How much does integration cost?
Booking with a paper form
If you cannot log in to Mijn Inburgering, use the paper form Aanmelding inburgeringsexamen from DUO's registration page. Tick the box on the form if you want to pay with your loan. After you have paid, DUO sends you a letter with the date, time and place within 3 weeks.
Adapted exam for illness or disability
If an illness or disability makes it hard to take the exam in the normal way, DUO can sometimes adapt it:
- Ask for it in Mijn Inburgering with the form Aanvraag advies aangepast examen.
- A doctor from Argonaut examines you and tells DUO whether you can get an adapted exam.
- If you can, you book that exam with the paper form Aanmelding inburgeringsexamen, not in Mijn Inburgering.
DUO explains this on its page Adjusted exam in case of illness or disability.
B1 or B2 instead of A2?
The language exams at B1 and B2 are the state exam Dutch as a second language (Staatsexamen Nt2). You book those in Mijn DUO, not in Mijn Inburgering. This guide is about the A2 and KNM exams.
